The New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program (NJ MMP)
The New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program allows the use of medically recommended marijuana for the following conditions:
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Chronic pain or weight loss from cancer
- Muscular dystrophy
- Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
- Terminal illness, if the physician has determined a prognosis of less than 12 months of life.
- Seizure disorder
- Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
- Glaucoma
- Positive status for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
- Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Anxiety
- Chronic Migraines
- Chronic pain of visceral origin
- Chronic pain related to musculoskeletal disorders
- Tourette’s Syndrome
The following conditions apply, if resistant to, or if the patient is intolerant to, conventional therapy:
- Seizure disorder, including epilepsy
- Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
- Glaucoma
The following conditions apply, if severe or chronic pain, severe nausea or vomiting, cachexia or wasting syndrome results from the condition or treatment thereof:
- Positive status for human immunodeficiency virus
- Acquired immune deficiency syndrome
- Cancer
Other Conditions not Recognized by the NJ MMP. The NJMMP is relatively restrictive and other states with legal medical marijuana have noted its efficacy in other conditions including;
- Chronic neuropathic pain, including nerve damage, phantom limb pain, facial neuralgia, and post herpetic neuralgia
- Nausea and vomiting from medication for the treatment of hepatitis C
- Neuropsychiatric disorders, including tics associated with Tourette syndrome, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD)
- Autoimmune conditions, including arthritis and lupus
- A debilitating symptom associated with a medical condition or the medical treatment of that condition
