Menopausal Problems

When women reach their mid thirties to mid to late forties they often begin to suffer from menopausal and premenopausal symptoms.

These symptoms often consist of “hot flashes”, mood swings, and irritability. They may also suffer from other symptoms at this time in their life. These may include weight gain, fatigue, aches and pains, and difficulty concentrating.

Many women are under the impression that all of these symptoms are caused by low estrogen levels. Drugs like Premarin and other hormone replacement therapies are frequently prescribed to treat these symptoms. Sex hormones are made not only by the ovaries and corpus luteum but also by the adrenal glands. In a healthy woman with healthy adrenal glands, the transition to menopause is fairly smooth and inconsequential. This is because healthy adrenal glands are able to increase their output of estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, and testosterone when the production of these hormones by the ovaries and corpus luteum decline.

However, should a woman have insufficient adrenal reserves, her hormone levels will drop precipitously and severe symptoms will manifest.

The key to reducing menopausal and premenopausal symptoms is obtaining hormonal and metabolic balance.
